We welcome writers and artists to apply to come to La Muse as barters on work exchange stays.
The studio, above, was renovated with the help of artists and writers who came to La Muse on barter.
At present we are very interested in finding a creative couple with management/ service, communication and home improvement skills for an extended partial barter stay of 6 months or more.
Please spread the word!
However, in the main, we are unable to offer full barter stays at present. Instead, we are happy to have people on retreat on a partial barter.
Barters come for a little over 4 weeks, to wrap around and do the turnover for (i.e. cleaning) a one-week and three-week retreat during their stay.
This can be all used up at once, or can be broken down into half days, or a combination. To some extent what you do while you’re here depends on our needs/projects on hand.
Partial barters pay 500 Euros, plus three days of work for La Muse. That means over 50% off the cost of their rooms.
They are lodged either at La Muse or, when the main house is full, in the cottage beside La Muse.
They will also offer the equivalent of one full eight hour working day of marketing for La Muse.
Partial barters help us with the turnover of any rooms during the duration of your stay as well as provide support in other areas as necessary, usually some house painting, home improvement (when appropriate) and lots of marketing and social media presence.
We simply couldn’t have made it to where we are without barters, and La Muse wouldn’t be the space it is.
Know in advance how much we appreciate your investment in this community! From our barters we ask a good work ethic, a sense of humor, a sense of adventure and some flexibility. Our days are full, are needs vary, and we just need extra hands on deck. We also ask you to remember that as barters you represent La Muse on some level, and hope that you’ll maintain a certain degree of professionalism during your stay.
This kind of work depends on the season and the number of other residents at the house.
It could include anything from building stone walls and gardening to home improvement, grant research for the retreat, or organizational assistance.
