We are pleased to announce our first Writer in Residence of 2018, Elizabeth Rose Murray, or E.R. Murray to her readers. Elizabeth is here on retreat this April.
In the past we have awarded only one fellowship every year, our November Wildcard residency.
However, moving forward this will become one of 3 residencies we offer each year, in different fields. This is our first young adult fiction writer residency.
The residencies will be in the months of January, April (Elizabeth) and November.
Elizabeth writes novels for children and young adults, as well as short fiction.
Her trilogy for children aged 8–12, the Nine Lives Trilogy, debuted with The Book of Learning in 2015. It was the 2016 Dublin UNESCO City of Literature Citywide Read for Children.
The Book of Shadows, the second book of her trilogy, was published in 2016.
The final novel in the trilogy, The Book of Revenge, was just published last February.
Her young adult novel Caramel Hearts, published in 2016, is a coming-of-age novel about love, disappointment and hope, and discovering the true value of friends and family, no matter how dysfunctional they are.
Elizabeth was born in England and lives in West Cork, Ireland, where she likes to fish, grow her own vegetables and enjoy adventures with her dog, Franklyn.
Here’s a good article Elizabeth wrote for The Irish Times, about how moving to Ireland helped her become a writer.
And here’s what she had to say on her blog about her first week on retreat.
Elizabeth also encourages new and emerging writers, regularly facilitating workshops for both adults and children. She also provides manuscript reports and online workshops for Big Smoke Writing Factory and Inkwell Group.
