Above, you can watch a video of Australian writer John Clanchy, held in the library.
Our Living Library is a collection of wonderful books donated to La Muse by artists, writers, musicians and more, over the last 15 years.
The space itself has a wood burning stove, reading chairs, a couch, an adjoining toilet and large double doors opening out onto the terrace and the mountain of trees and trails.
The one-meter thick walls keep the room cool in the summer and warm in the winter.
The book collection is an eclectic, inspired one because we ask every resident after accepting the retreat guidelines and upon acceptance, to donate two books to the Library.
We explain this better in our how to apply for a retreat section.
We call the library a “living library” because it grows every time a new resident comes to La Muse.
At the beginning of every retreat residents talk about the books they bring and what they are here to work on.
Over the years we have been delighted to receive copies of books, movies, scores, catalogs etc. that residents have created, to share with our ever growing community here.
Because of these donations La Muse has amassed an amazing library of great books on anything from abstract art to the DVDs on the sexual patterns of animals!
