Montagne Noire · South of France · Summer 2026
A place where
time stands still.
An artists & writers retreat nestled in a medieval village in the heart of the Languedoc.
What is La Muse
A large old house.
An extraordinary creative space.
La Muse is first and foremost a large old house nestled in the heart of a village in the Montagne Noire, north of Carcassonne. But it is also something harder to define — a place where time takes on another dimension, where the days lose their edges, and where the creative work you have been meaning to do finally finds its space.
Here, you might write a hundred pages, or simply dream of the perfect canvas. There is no agenda. No pressure. Only time — generously given back to you.
“We must give time to time. Give yourself time at La Muse, and she will give it back to you generously.”Read the philosophy

— Past resident, La Muse
A word from the founder
I came to La Muse first as a guest — and like so many who pass through these doors, I never quite wanted to leave. When the original owners decided to sell, I knew I had to take over the place and ensure it continued to offer what it had given me: time, silence, and the quiet magic of creative freedom.
Since then, La Muse has grown to welcome not only individual retreat guests but also a community of artists, writers, and practitioners through our workshops and movement and embodiment programmes.
I hope you will come and find your own version of that magic here.
— Alain Brichau, Owner-Director
